Deciding to speak to a therapist is a very personal choice, and one that calls for an environment of trust, comfort, and security. It is my sincere hope to cultivate such a space for you to succeed in developing a better awareness of yourself and your relationships, past and present.

As a Master’s level Student Counselor, I work with individuals, couples, and families, nurturing a deeper understanding of how one’s emotional experiences can influence their connections with others, and vice versa. We grow toward these goals together using principles of Emotionally Focused Therapy, a scientifically proven approach to relational counseling.

I want to commend you for taking this first step in considering therapy. Facing your unique challenges head on by participating in therapy takes strength and courage, and can end up being one of the most rewarding things you will ever do!

With the right support, everyone can experience their own healing path. It’s amazing how just feeling heard and understood can get us started on that path. I do not view unwanted feelings or behaviors as “bad,” but rather view them as responses to very real pain which can be treated with respect, acceptance, and eventually lead to healing and positive change!

River Christian Counseling, LLC.

My values are reconciliation (bringing back into relationship), redemption (the act of recovering, or producing a better outcome), restoration (bringing back to the original design), healing (becoming well again), transformation (the process of change) and life (vitalized being).

My vision is to see people healed and made whole, free of that which holds them back, and living in healthy, successful relationships, with self, others, and God.

My mission is to use empirically proven therapeutic methods and Biblically grounded truth to empower healing, change, reconciliation, redemption, and wholeness.

I specialize in helping couples and families thrive. If one partner suffers from past trauma it can make couples therapy work challenging. I integrate clinical training in EFT & EMDR and biblically sound approaches to life’s struggles.

I enjoy working with adolescents and adults individually as well as couples and families. I assist clients with anxiety, depression, stress and coping, interpersonal dilemmas, parenting dilemmas, relationship communication, conflict resolution, and developing greater connection and intimacy with loved ones. My particular areas of interest include couples and families struggling with substance abuse and families who want help navigating the valleys of life. My passion for therapy began in high school, and that same passion still exists today. I spent the past twenty years in the construction industry. However, I always found myself drawn to getting to know people on a deeper level and often talking through the struggles they were facing with people. These moments not only brought me joy but are what made me walk away from my previous career and pursue this passion, an easy one. I believe that our history provides us with lessons, and our future provides us with opportunities to use those lessons.

Waters Edge Counseling & Therapeutic Services.

I was born in a small farming community near the coast of North Carolina. Tobacco was then a cash crop and working in the fields was the summer job to have as a 12-year-old boy. I learned the value of hard work and developed a spirituality in a small-town church that continues to sustain me today. No one person was better than another, but the summer I turned 15 my family and I moved to Atlanta, Georgia. My life went from small town rural America to life in the big city. Fast forward to college at Florida State where I met my wife of 45 years.

I traveled extensively and when my father died in 2014, I retired and went back to school at Stetson and received a Masters of Science Degree in Mental Health Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy.

I am deeply honored that you are considering me as your counselor. I have experienced how difficult it is to choose a counselor and my hope is to make that choice as easy as possible for you. Despite my best efforts to give you the information you need on this page, the information that’s important for choosing a counselor is different for everyone. I have decided to focus on Austin-the-counselor on this page but, if you would like to ask me any questions about Austin-the-person or about counseling with me before making your decision, I would be happy to answer your questions over the phone or by email.

I was born and raised in Cuba. I grew up in a very large family. Thus, relationships have been central and a very important part of my life. In relationships, I have experienced the important need to feel secure. We all want to feel connected and know that our experiences matter to the people we love. It is important to know that when we are in pain someone will be there to care for us.
