My particular areas of interest include couples and families struggling with substance abuse and families who want help navigating the valleys of life. My passion for therapy began in high school, and that same passion still exists today. I spent the past twenty years in the construction industry. However, I always found myself drawn to getting to know people on a deeper level and often talking through the struggles they were facing with people. These moments not only brought me joy but are what made me walk away from my previous career and pursue this passion, an easy one. I was born in a small farming community near the coast of North Carolina. Tobacco was then a cash crop and working in the fields was the summer job to have as a 12-year-old boy. I learned the value of hard work and developed a spirituality in a small-town church that continues to sustain me today. No one person was better than another, but the summer I turned 15 my family and I moved to Atlanta, Georgia. My life went from small town rural America to life in the big city. Fast forward to college at Florida State where I met my wife of 45 years.

I traveled extensively and when my father died in 2014, I retired and went back to school at Stetson and received a Masters of Science Degree in Mental Health Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy.

As a State of Florida Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I am qualified to provide services to help individuals, and couples. I am also a qualified supervisor for Florida Registered Mental Health and Social Work Interns.  Additionally, I have spent over a decade providing consultation and program reviews for organizations seeking formal accreditation and I participate in the development of social work examination processes designed to ensure candidates demonstrate minimal competency standards.  In my free time I serve as a mentor for high school students, volunteer on local Boards and enjoy running and strength training.

I started my professional training in psychology in 1988, earning three masters and a doctorate degree. My training has focused extensively on working with adults and children in out-patient, in-patient and residential settings. I have served as an adjunct faculty at Argosy University. I conduct workshops to facilitate awareness of mental health issues and provide resources for different organizations. I am contracted with QTC Medical group – a group through the Department of Veterans Affairs, to provide psychological services to our veterans.
